The Establishment of the Kingdom of Brannovia

The Kingdom of Brannovia, first referred to as the Royal House of Brannovia, a predecessor to the Brannovian Kingdom, is the core of a predominantly 'Celtic' microkingdom situated on the western border of the ancient Kingdom of Glywyssing and the eastern border of the ancient kingdom of Dyfed.

The Kingdom of Brannovia is ruled by an absolute monarch, Cadobran, who established the Kingdom on the 10th of February, 2022. The ruler is the only official resident of the Kingdom.

The name of the Kingdom derives from the Old Celtic bran, which survives in Gaelic and Brythonic languages as the word for 'raven'. It is also the personal name of many legendary Celtic personages such as Bran of Brittany, a Breton warrior who was reincarnated as a crow after dying in prison for his war against Norse raiders; Bran Galed, a Cymric warrior who had in his possession a drinking horn which was never empty; and most famously Bran Vendigeid, a man of giant stature who led an army of Brythons to the shores of ancient Eire to release his sister Branwen from the prison of Matholwch. These events are remembered in Y Mabinogi, the Mabinogion. However, it is honour of the raven that the Kingdom is named.

Separately, there was a Gaulish tribe known as the Branovii or Brannovices who once lived in what is now the Macon district of France before the Romans devastated Gaul.
